Recently

This is the first issue of a series of posts called Recently, the concept for which I first encountered while reading Tom MacWright’s excellent blog.

Each issue will essentially be a collection of links and short content typical of microblogging posts, just published in batches every few weeks or so. Microblogging that does not destroy our collective attention.

This first instance contains content I had accumulated so far in the separate microblogging feed of this blog, which used to be called syslog.

Quotes

It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.

Books

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel is a glorious celebration of longing and belonging, of beauty, of empathy. A graceful, intimate work of speculative fiction masterfully woven across time, confronting some of mankind’s fundamental questions with a sense of wonder that never dissipates. I’ll have to read it again soon.

Music

Spirits by Nothing More. An Evocative mix of post-screamo, hardcore and nu metal with accents of djent and EDM. This is what happens when we embrace our teenage angst as we grow up, learning how to wield it and focus it against the struggles of adult life. Loved it. Highlights: “Ships in the Night”, “Don’t Look Back”, “Deja Vu”, “Dream With Me”.
